What is a domain name?
A domain name is a string of characters that represent one or multiple IP addresses.
In short a domain name is what you type in the address bar of your browser when you want to access a specific web page.
Like Namerolls.com or Google.com, these are two domain names; these are registered names and not the sites.
In other words a domain name is the address onto which a website resides.

In the year 2014, More than 100 new generic top-level domains added.
In the 31-Mar-2016, 326.4million TLD’S were registered.
By 2017, 1500+ valid TLD’S are available.
In 2018, users are no longer able to create new shortened URL’s using the Goo.gl console, while the console itself can no longer be used in March-2019.
What are TLD’S?
TLD (Top level domain) is classified into two categories:
General top level domain (gTLD): like .com, .net, .org, .edu
Country code top level domain (ccTLD): .in, .mx, .au, .co, .ca
gTLD’s can be subdivided into two types:
Sponsored (sTLD’s): .edu, .gov, .aero, .int, .tel
Unsponsored TLD’s (uTLD’s): .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz
